1. What are the requirements and format for side event applications?
a. Side events will be in panel format only.
b. Panels will consist of four speakers (including a moderator), including at least an international speaker and a representative from the private sector.
c. Each organization can organize only one panel, and each speaker can participate in only one panel.
d. Panels will consist of 45 minutes of presentations and 15 minutes of Q&A.
e. The events will be conducted in English.
f. Speakers who wish to speak a different language must provide their own translation facilities.
g. All speakers must physically be present at the panel.
2. What are Conference of the Parties (COP), and what is their purpose?
a. The Conference of Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an international climate summit. Since 1995, it has been held annually unless the Parties decide otherwise. At COPs, world leaders and country negotiators gather to work together on solutions to tackle climate change. There are now 199 Parties (198 States plus the EU) to the Convention, constituting near universal membership.
3. Where and when will the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) take place
a. The Conference of the Parties, held in a different country every year, will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11th to November 22th, 2024.
4. What are side events?
a. Side events provide a platform for observer participants, who have limited speaking opportunities in the official negotiations, to interact with Parties and other participants for knowledge sharing, capacity building, networking, and exploring practical options to address the challenges of climate change.
5. Why are side events important for our country?
a. Like other countries, our country will have the opportunity to showcase and promote our efforts and initiatives related to climate change to representatives and participants worldwide through side events. Therefore, preparing a high-quality side event program for our country is essential.
6. Can I participate in COP29?
a. Yes, you can participate in the conference by organizing a side event or simply by obtaining a badge.
7. Where will my side event take place?
a. Your side event will take place in Türkiye Pavilion at COP29's Blue Zone.
8. Can I visit other pavilions?
a. You will be able to visit pavilions of other countries or organizations after getting a badge.
9. How can I apply?
a. To be able to attend COP29, every participant needs to fill out the application form/forms available on our website.
10. I completed my side event application. Do I need to apply individually for a badge?
a. Yes, your personal application is necessary to obtain a badge and gain access to COP29 Blue Zone.
11. I do not want to organize a side event. Can I still attend?
a. Yes, if you do not wish to organize a side event, you are required to fill out the personal application form.
12. Is there a deadline for applications?
a. Side events applications will close on Sunday, September 15th. Applications will not be accepted after this date. However, individual applications for access to the Blue Zone will continue.
13. What happens after side event applications?
a. After the applications are completed, a selection process will be conducted if the number of side events exceeds our allocated capacity. Afterwards, accepted side events will be published on our website.
14. What happens after my personal application?
a. If your application is accepted, you will receive accreditation confirmation from the UNFCCC after we complete the registration process.
15. Can I access the Blue Zone with the badge you provide?
a. Yes, you will have access to the Blue Zone.
16. What do I need to do for my visa application?
